Insomnia
Insomnia is an umbrella term to describe sleep problems. It is very common, with the 29% of UK 29% adults suffer from it. The main treatment for insomnia is medication. Unfortunately long-term use can lead to side-effects including lethargy, addiction and neurological damage.
Acupuncture has no long term safety issues and has been shown to be at least as, if not more, beneficial than drug treatment for insomnia. In general, acupuncture is believed to increase melatonin secretion, promote relaxation, reduce the flight or flight response, reduce sensitivity to stress, and to deactivatie the ‘analytical’ brain, which is responsible for insomnia. It can be used alone or alongside prescribed medication.
